Grandma’s Snack Wisdom
It’s an earnest effort in our house to avoid processed foods. Over the years, I’ve tried all kinds of snack solutions—homemade bars, different recipes, you name it. But sometimes it’s overwhelming and a lot of work. In one of my moments of stress, I asked my grandma what her mom did for snacks. She told me: every morning she cut up a big bowl of fruit and veggies and left it on the table all afternoon for us.
Ugh! Duh! Talk about eliminating constant requests, big cleanups, and processed seed oils…just wholesome food ready and waiting. I love this idea because it’s effortless, it works, and it keeps snacking simple.
Plus if you’re a bread baker like I am, you can take it one step further: slice up some sourdough and set out peanut butter, pesto or butter alongside. Suddenly, you’ve got fresh, nourishing, grab-and-go snacks for the whole family with almost zero effort. This beginner sourdough recipe from Farmhouse on Boone is great!
Thanks, Grandma!
